Senator Whitworth

Okay, so I know he's kind of a minor character, but I found Senator Whitworth's (Stuart's daddy) to be really interesting. What did you guys think about his political views, and how they connect to the common opinion of 1963. Do you guys think that he embodies the type of politician that Hilly implies when she says "you can't fight with the government"? Oh, by the way, anyone in the Help group 7C, i'm the lead blogger, so reply!!! (Sarah H., Gracie, Siggi, Rachel L, this means you!)

  1. Wow that is a really cool connection you made from Hilly's quote to Stuart's daddy(: well i was really happy when Skeeter's dad talk about how he has 25 African Americans in his cotton field and he trust everyone of them and they're being treated poorly. That made me sooooo happy and then when Stuart's dad actually agreed! Super super cool that Stuart's dad is such a cool guy! haha well i mean they did break up... but i think they'll get back together!!! (I hope they were cuteeee)

  2. Meaning like at that time, you could not argue with the gov. because like no one did, and people did not have that much power. Also, she may just be talking to women, because they could not vote...

  3. i thought it was really cool that he said that he should be able to share his own views in his house because he cant at work. you never really think that politicians could be lying about what they believe in to please the public

  4. Yeah, Carrie I was thinking the same thing. I was kinda shocked when he agreed with Skeeter's dad and how what he actually believes is really different than what he tells people he believes as a politician

  5. I thought it was really interesting that he disagreed with the political views the rest of Jackson thought he supported.
